Our curriculum is designed to inspire a love of learning while developing the knowledge, skills and confidence children need to succeed both in school and beyond.

Based on the Northern Ireland Curriculum, our learning experiences are carefully planned to be relevant, meaningful and enjoyable. We aim to nurture curious, independent learners who are encouraged to ask questions, solve problems and think creatively.

A strong emphasis is placed on Language and Literacy, where children develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through a wide range of exciting learning opportunities. We strive to foster a love of reading from an early age and encourage pupils to communicate confidently and effectively.

In Mathematics and Numeracy, children build essential mathematical skills through practical activities, investigations and real-life problem-solving opportunities. We encourage pupils to develop confidence in their mathematical thinking and apply their learning across different areas of the curriculum.

Learning is enriched through The World Around Us, where children explore aspects of science, history and geography. Through investigation, research and hands-on experiences, pupils develop a greater understanding of themselves, their local community and the wider world.

The curriculum at Abercorn Primary School also celebrates creativity through The Arts. Opportunities in art, music and drama allow children to express themselves, develop their talents and build confidence in a supportive environment.

We recognise the importance of developing the whole child through Personal Development and Mutual Understanding (PDMU). Pupils are encouraged to build positive relationships, show respect for others and develop important life skills that support their emotional health and wellbeing.

Regular participation in Physical Education promotes healthy lifestyles, teamwork and resilience. Alongside curriculum PE, children have opportunities to take part in a range of sporting and after-school activities that encourage active participation and enjoyment.

Across all areas of learning, we focus on developing the key skills of Communication, Using Mathematics and Using ICT. Digital technologies are used purposefully to enhance learning and prepare pupils for life in an increasingly technological world.
