Vision, Values & Ethos

Welcome to our Vision, Values, and Ethos page.

At Abercorn Primary School our motto, "Learning and working together," is at the heart of our school community.  However, as the world around us evolves, it is vital that we clearly define the core principles that guide us every single day.

Following meaningful collaboration with our staff, governors, and families, I am incredibly proud to introduce our four core values: Respect, Kindness, Motivation, and Honesty.

These values are not just words on a page or a noticeboard; they are the behavioural pillars that shape our school culture. They guide how our pupils interact in the playground, how they approach challenges in the classroom, and how we collaborate as a whole school family. By embedding these principles into daily school life, we ensure that Abercorn is a safe, nurturing, and ambitious environment where every child feels valued and inspired to reach their full potential.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to bring these values to life for our children.

Our School Motto

"Learning and working together."

This simple philosophy underpins everything we do. We believe that children achieve their highest potential when school staff, pupils, families, and the local community collaborate closely to build a rich, shared learning experience.

Our Core Values

Our four core values serve as the pillars of our school character. They guide how we treat one another, how we approach our schoolwork, and how we grow as citizens:

  • 🤝 Respect: We will value the potential and contributions of every individual.
  • ❤️ Kindness: We will show empathy and care to one another.
  • ✨ Motivation: We will engage in school life to learn and work together.
  • 💡 Honesty: We will develop an atmosphere of trust, openness and fair play.

Celebrating Our Values in School

We believe that values are caught, not just taught. To embed respect, kindness, motivation, and honesty into our daily school life, we actively recognise and celebrate children who demonstrate these principles through several initiatives:

  • 🏆 Weekly Values Assemblies: Every week, we gather as a whole school to shine a spotlight on one of our core values. Staff nominate pupils who have gone above and beyond to demonstrate that value, presenting them with a special "Headteachers Award."
  • Classroom Rewards and Celebrations, e.g. singing and learning the 'kindness' song.
  • 🌳 The Abercorn Celebration Tree: Located in our main school corridor, this interactive display grows throughout the year. When a child demonstrates exceptional kindness, respect, honesty or motivation their name and achievement are added to a branch on our tree for everyone to see and celebrate.
  • 💬 Values Champions: Senior pupils will be appointed as Values Ambassadors to help promote positive playground behaviours, modelling kindness, respect, honesty and motivation to our younger students.
